Kelly Kane is the Director of St. Thomas’ Day School. She has been with the school since 1995 & this is her 15th year as Director. She has been married to her husband, Dan, for 26 years and has three children (all graduates of St. Thomas’) ; Domenic (15 years old), Maria (13years old), & Colleen (13 years old). She is originally from Pennsylvania, but has lived in Richmond since 1994. She graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Elementary Education and concentration in Early Childhood.
Joan Bowles is the Assistant Director and a teacher in the 4 & 5 year old class. She is in her 19th year of teaching at St. Thomas’ Day School. Prior to working at St. Thomas’ she worked in the medical field for 13 years. She is originally from Aston, PA but, attended college in Lynchburg, VA . She married & moved to Richmond 32 years ago and now lives in Mechanicsville . Joan has 3 children: Brandon 30, Morgan 27 and Kyle 21, who is a graduate of St. Thomas’ Day School. For 25 years + Joan has worked with her church in either the Children’s Program or with the Jr./ Sr. High Youth and also served as Youth Director @ Shalom Baptist Church for a couple years. In her free time she enjoys nature, biking, kayaking, gardening, art, reading & spending time with her husband, kids, grand daughter, Ophelia & her chihuahuas, Tallulah & Peanut..
Laura Harbison is a teacher in the 2 & 3 day class. She has been a teacher at St. Thomas’ Day School for 18 years. She is originally from Asheville, NC and has lived in Richmond for 30 years. She has 3 children; Jessica , Alex , & Mitchell, who is a St. Thomas’ graduate. Laura has 2 adorable grand babies- Sadie & Audrey. Laura is looking forward to another wonderful year at St. Thomas’ Day School.
Andrea Marcinkevicius (Mrs. M) is a teacher in the Mixed Age Class. She is a member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church and this will be her 7th year teaching at St. Thomas’ Day School. Andrea has been teaching for 19 years (including 11 years teaching & 2 years as Director at Epiphany Lutheran Nursery School ). She has her CDA in Early Childhood Development for Preschoolers. She has been married to her husband, Dan, for 26 years and has 2 children: Jon (22) and Katie (15).
Susan Kaplan is a teacher in the 2 & 3 day class. She is in her 2nd year of teaching after taking a couple years off. All together she has worked at St. Thomas' for 4 years. She is married and is a mom to two daughters, ages 14 and 12. Susan loves to refinish furniture, work in her flower beds and always be creative.
Jessamy Austin is a teacher in the Mixed Age Class. This will be her 5th year at St. Thomas'. She is excited to be entering her 2nd year as lead teacher and substituted for 3 years. She was born in Seoul, South Korea and grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee & Winchester, Virginia. She has received her Bachelor's of Art in History from Longwood University in 2010 and a Paralegal Certificate from the University of Richmond School of Professional & Continuing Studies in the fall of 2012. She works at Collegiate School in the afternoon, as the Program Leader of their after-school enrichment program, Activity Quest. She has been volunteering with the Junior League of Richmond, since the fall of 2013, previously in the Membership Council and now in Fund Development. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, spending time with her friends, doing puzzles and crocheting. She also has a dog & a cat. She enjoys driving around Richmond in her Smart Car.
Wendy Knuth is a teacher in the Mixed Age Class . She is excited to be teaching at St. Thomas where 3 of her children attended. This will be her 2nd year as lead teacher. She is married to Dave and has five children: Josiah (22), Ben (21), Ava (19), Paxton (13), and Logan (11). She is originally from Illinois. After 13 years in Richmond the family moved to Illinois for 8 years, returning to Richmond 3 years ago. Wendy enjoys spending time with her family and also sewing and reading. She looks forward to seeing this next generation of St. Thomas' students learn and grow, just as her own children did.
