St. Thomas has an active set of lay pastoral care ministries which are supervised by the Rector with the assistance of the lay pastoral care team. The lay pastoral care team consists of the Pastoral Care Committee Chair and the heads of the individual ministries, supported by the vestry liaison for pastoral care. The pastoral care team meets quarterly. The individual ministries with brief descriptions are as follows:
Lots of Helping Hands: Primarily a meals ministry for persons in need of support, whether by reason of illness or circumstance. It also provides other supportive services such as grocery shopping, light housework, babysitting, and transportation to and from medical appointments. Volunteers are solicited electronically using Sign-Up Genius. Help can be accessed by contacting the Rector, the church office, the Chair of the pastoral care team, or by telephoning Susannah Raine at 804-928-6130. Susannah manages the sign-up process and contacts every household in need of assistance to verify food needs, allergies, and delivery details prior to sending out the electronic solicitation.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers: This is our home communion ministry. Access this service by calling the Rector or the church office.
Flower Delivery: The altar flowers are delivered to people in the congregation after church every Sunday. If you know of someone in need of recognition or encouragement, please communicate this to the Vestry Person of the Day.
