Dear St. Thomas Family,

It is so good to be back with you all! At the Vestry and Warden's invitation, I will be serving as a Priest Associate with you all as of August 1 (Add an end date?) As your Priest Associate, I am available for pastoral calls and concerns and will be serving some Sunday mornings preaching and celebrating the Eucharist. I also look forward to leading periodic Bible studies and prayer groups. My role is one of support while you all are looking for your Interim Rector.

As many of you remember, I was a member of St. Thomas's in the early 2000's until this parish supported me to go to seminary at Yale Divinity School. I have been ordained now for 10 years. Throughout 18 years of lay and ordained ministry I have served as a prison chaplain in the U.S. and abroad, as well as a missionary in the U.S., Asia and Central America. I have ministered to congregations here in Richmond (St. James's for 4 years), Oregon, and Connecticut. I, my husband, Chris, and our two daughters Emmeline (age 5) and Georgia (age 2) happily returned to Richmond last summer so that I could serve as Upper School Chaplain at St. Christopher's School. You will be seeing our girls in the mix in worship and Sunday school, but my husband will not be able to join us most Sundays because he is the Choir Director at St. Stephen's Church.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any pastoral concerns for yourself or someone you know. The best way to reach me is by email: WEdwards@stthomasrichmond.org. I will return from serving a community in Maine at the end of July and look forward to being with you all every Sunday in August and many thereafter!

My family is so deeply grateful for the opportunity to be with you all. St. Thomas is a very special community full of faithful and loving people and it feels like a homecoming to be back in the pews with you. God bless you all and we will be seeing you very soon.

Yours,
Whitney Z. Edwards+
