Carolina Lugo Biography
Carolina Lugo became the Youth Minister at St. Thomas inSeptember 2009. She and her family, which includes husband Ted Smith andchildren Quin and Lucy, have been attending St. Thomas since the summer of 2005. On their first visit, St. Thomas felt instantly like "home" for themthanks to the warmth and welcoming nature of the parishioners and the emphasison community service.
Carolina graduated from The University of the South(Sewanee) with a B.A. in political science and her professional endeavorsinclude working as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer in an inner-city Washington,D.C. high school, coordinating an after-school program for underserved and academically talented elementary and middle school students in Washington,D.C., and serving as a middle school gifted resource teacher in Albemarle County, VA. She has been an active volunteer over the years,serving as a La Leche League leader, volunteering in a free health clinic as a pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding counselor to Spanish-speaking women, volunteering at school, and working with the St. Thomas Food Pantry. Carolina is passionate about grace-based parenting, creating a village, social justice issues, sustainability,and supporting local farms and businesses.
