Stimulus Bulletin Board

Susannah Haddad designed and installed a fantastic bullentin board for the Stimulus Initiative.  Please note the "SI" envelopes decorated by Ellie and Ada Rigsby and Erica Cummings.  Please also use those envelopes to drop your overly generous SI checks into the offetory plate.

The bulletin board has a pen attached to it - with ample space to write encouraging notes, to opine on any subject or to rant on the silliness of this program.  Please do so with abandon...

Stimulus Initiative

I still don't understand the purpose of the Stimulus Initiative. Could someone clearly explain it?

Stimulus Initiative - clarity?

Thanks for the question - I am going out on a limb in guessing that confusion on the program comes primarily from the fact that it is not an overwrought, complicated shebang. It is simply an effort to get everyone in the congregation to consider giving St. Thomas' a portion of their stimulus package checks (rebates) from the IRS...that's it.

It was inspired by the concurrence of the St. T's general meeting (and a discussion of a budget shortfall) and the voting on Capitol Hill on the stimulus package. It has been created and implemented by just a few congregants with some due diligence approvals by the appropriate committees and vestry along the way.

There is no allotment or direction on where any funds might be directed for a few reasons (and I am speaking for myself here):

1. Who knows if it is going to work?

2. One man's pet funding project is another woman's ho-hum need

3. It complicates the message...

That is not to say there is no goal. The goal is to encourage as many congregants as possible to give as much as possible from their stimulus package rebates - along the way we'd like to have some fun, help people reflect on the gifts of our congregation and use as little church resources as possible.

Does this help? If not, this is Steve Cummings, I am in the church directory, feel free to give me a ring or e-mail me.

Cheers,

SC
