Lindon Eaves' Biography

Lindon was born and educated in England. He is an ordained scientist who directs the Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine. He is Distinguished Professor of Human Genetics and Psychiatry at VCU. His research involves trying to understand the complex genetic and environmental causes of human behavior and its disorders.

He has been married to Sue, Rector of St. Thomas', for more than 35 years. Before coming to the US, he taught at Oxford University.

Lindon was ordained in England in 1968 and, the next day, began work on his doctorate in genetics. For more than 30 years, Lindon has combined his career as a scientist with his ministry as a priest, serving with the University Chaplaincy in Birmingham, England and on the staff of parishes in England and Richmond. He is active in the dialogue between theology and science and recently served on the Presiding Bishop's task force on the "New Genetics."

Lindon enjoys preaching and teaching. He appreciates the fact that the Episcopal Church does not expect him to leave his brain at the door. He finds St. Thomas' a very welcoming community and loves the fact that the people at St. Thomas' are so laid back and open to new ideas and new people. He also values the balance of warmth and dignity of the services at St. Thomas'. He says St. Thomas' is the most fun Church he has been in since he was ordained and is proud to be a member.
