Susan Eaves became Rector of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church on April 1, 2001. She was ordained in 1991 after a career in education. She became the Director of the Upper School at St. Catherine's Episcopal School for Girls in Richmond, VA. was also priest-in-residence at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church Richmond during that time. After five years as the Associate Rector of St. James's, Richmond she came to St. Thomas'.
During her service in the Diocese of Virginia she has been President of the Standing Committee, Chair of the Committee for Women in Mission and Ministry, First Alternate and Deputy to General Convention through 2009, and served on a number of diocesan commissions including the Windsor Dialogue Commission. She has recently been appointed to the Commission on Giving.
A lifelong Anglican she has a particular appreciation of the ability of the church to walk the "via media" (the middle way) honoring the centuries old traditions of the church with the call to be the kingdom in our current age. Inclusive by nature and conviction she, along with the members of St. Thomas', offer the hospitality of Christ to all comers.
A native of England she has lived in the United States since 1981. Susan is married with two grown children who are both married, a son just graduated from college, and three grandchildren. She enjoys reading, painting and photography and has a love of theater.
